Sparked by informal jam sessions in living spaces, The Moving Orchestra is an eclectic mix of artists from all backgrounds in NYC, including Juilliard, Columbia, Barnard, The New School, and Royal Academy of Music. The group specializes in workshopping programs of all improvisation - nothing composed or choreographed - taking itself to different spaces all over the city.
The Kyrgyz American Foundation’s Eurasia Festival, which was established to preserve the rich multicultural heritage of the Eurasian region and to introduce it to the general public of the United States, is hosting The Moving Orchestra for this Massivemuse.
Programme includes:
Shostakovich string quartet no.8 and Bartok Romanian folk dances for string orchestra, but arranged, in the moving orchestra style, for a mixed chamber ensemble.
Conducted improvisations where a chosen conductor guides the improvisers using hand gestures and movement. The Moving Orchestra has adapted “conduction” to dancers as well.
Improvisations based on Kyrgyzstani folk tunes.
