 t the sixth of a 16-part digital concert series based on the college-accre
 dited\, Beethoven-inspired music composition course being created for inca
 rcerated students. This course\, named MUSIC FOR THE FUTURE\, is an expans
 ion of our previous 5-day intensive workshops which PMHU teaching artists 
 have given in state and federal prisons for the past five years.\n\nFor th
 e sixth installment of this Groupmuse Centerstage series\, you will have t
 he opportunity to take part in the ongoing creation of this exciting new d
 igital composition course\, experiencing all sixteen of Beethoven's String
  Quartets in a new and up-close way\, and learn how our students compose u
 sing the same tools Beethoven used. We hope you'll join us to take a deep 
 dive into the beauty\, inspiration\, pain\, and redemption that are contai
 ned within Beethoven's music\, while learning how to craft original works 
 through breaking down Beethoven's compositional process.\n\nIn this week
 ’s episode we will look into one of Beethoven’s shortest but most inte
 nse string quartets\, the String Quartet in F minor\, Op. 95\, often calle
 d ‘Quartetto Serioso’. This name seems fitting already from the piece
 ’s very first statement\, a fast and furious theme condensed into less t
 han two seconds. Indeed\, powerful\, at times even violent messages delive
 red in brief stretches of time seem to be an issue this work explores. In 
 fact\, the quartet as a whole could be described using these words exactly
 . To better understand its peculiar shape and character\, we will discuss 
 the historical context that might have inspired it and look at the innovat
 ive compositional techniques Beethoven used to express it\, techniques tha
 t foreshadow the style of his late string quartets\, composed only after a
  15-year string-quartet-hiatus.\n\nThe full MUSIC FOR THE FUTURE course wi
 ll launch in Fall 2022 led by PMHU's lead teaching artist and course devel
