DESCRIPTION:Hosted by Concetta A.\nMusicians: Concetta Abbate\, Charlie Rau
 h\, Thomas Giles\, Charlotte Munn-Wood\, and Jae Han\n\nSounds of Summer S
olstice is a music program featuring three distinct NEW MUSIC ensembles co
mprised of performers/composers representing a wide range of influence.\n\
n1) NYC based guitarist/composer Charlie Rauh has been invited to be resid
ent composer by such organizations as The Rauschenberg Foundation\, The Kl
austrid Foundation\, Louisiana State University\, and The Chen Dance Cente
 r. His work as a soloist has been supported by grants from Meet The Comp
oser\, New York Foundation For The Arts\, and The Fractured Atlas Group. R
auh’s approach to solo guitar composition takes inspiration from folk lu
llabies\, plainchant\, and the imagery of various poets ranging from the B
rontës to Anna Akhmatova. Acoustic Guitar Magazine notes that “Charlie
Rauh plays guitar with a quiet intensity\, each note and chord ringing wit
h purpose...With these lullabies Rauh gives a gentle reminder that playing
soft and slow can be more impactful than loud and fast."\n\n2) The Telos
Consort is reimagining chamber music for the 21st century with its wide-ra
nging programming and its intrinsically flexible instrumentation. The ense
mble maximizes its diversity of repertoire and sonic variety with a module
approach to programming\, including works for 2-to-5 players. The group i
s devoted to performing work by living composers and seeks to create conce
rt experiences that are interactive\, surprising\, and welcoming to listen
ers of all backgrounds.\n\nTelos is ensemble-in-residence at the 92nd Stre
et Y School of Music\, where its members serve on faculty leading workshop
 s\, classes\, lessons\, and performances.\n\nTelos Consort is Charlotte Mu
 nn-Wood\, Mindy Asher\, Thomas Giles\, Kyle Landry\, Huizi Zhang\, and Col
e Reyes. \n\n3) The Concetta Ensemble is a group of talented musicians who
specialize in performing the original music of composer and violinist Con
cetta Abbate. With a unique blend of classical\, folk\, jazz\, and free im
provisation influences\, the ensemble features voice\, woodwinds\, strings
 \, piano\, and percussion\, played by instrumentalists from a variety of b
ackgrounds.\n\nThe ensemble has performed at a number of notable venues an
d festivals\, including the New Music and New Ideas Festival\, the Ambient
Chaos series\, the Park Church Co-op Summer Festival\, The Little Island
Summer Festival\, and the Dimenna Center for Classical Music. They have al
so received grants from a range of organizations\, including New Music USA
\, the Howard Gilman Foundation\, the Amphion Foundation\, the Cheswatyr F
oundation\, the ASCAP Foundation\, the BMI Foundation\, the Sorel Organiza
tion\, and the Alice M. Ditson Fund of Columbia University.\n\nTheir upcom
ing concert program will include a variety of music\, featuring excerpts f
rom their new composition\, PolyFloral\, as well as songs from their previ
ous albums and repertoire. PolyFloral is a beautiful and captivating work
that explores the secret emotional lives of trees\, insects\, and other wo
 odland animals in a forest.\n
