 When legendary vocalist Betty Carter asked saxophonist **Mark Shim** to jo
 in her band for a three month world tour in 1995\, he became the first and
  only saxophonist that the iconic singer would ever utilize for an oversea
 s tour. Remarkably\, Shim was only 21 years of age at the time. Since that
  auspicious debut\, Mark Shim has made an impact on the musical world with
  his unique brand of creativity and inventiveness. \n\nOver the course of 
 his 25-year career\, Shim has recorded three albums for the prestigious Bl
 ue Note label\, including the critically acclaimed *Turbulent Flow*. He ha
 s also had the honor of touring with the great Elvin Jones in the last inc
 arnation of his “Elvin Jones Jazz Machine” band\, as well with many ot
 her distinguished and influential artists\, including Terence Blanchard\, 
 Terri Lyne Carrington\, and Vijay Iyer. \n\nBorn in Jamaica\, Shim current
 ly resides in New York\, and is a highly sought-after educator and perform
 er.\n\nDrummer **Enoch Jamal "E.J." Strickland**  is the world-class\, wor
 ld-traveled drummer\, composer\, educator\, and artist you've heard on ove
 r 60 albums in the last 10-plus years. The Miami native grew up in a creat
 ive household\, where his dad was a percussionist in the Ft. Lauderdale Or
 chestra\; his twin brother Marcus played the saxophone.\n\nStrickland has 
 built a successful career as a composer\, bandleader\, educator\, and side
 man. He's toured\, performed\, and recorded with some of the greatest name
 s in contemporary music: Cassandra Wilson\, Terence Blanchard\, Lizz Wrigh
 t\, Wynton Marsalis\, George Colligan\, David Gilmore\, Vincent Herring\, 
 and Nnenna Freelon\, to name a few. As an instructor\, he's taught alongsi
 de some of the world's best jazz educators: Dave Douglas and Vijay Iyer at
  the prestigious Banff International Workshop in Jazz & Creative Music\, S
 teve Kirby at University of Manitoba\, and Earl MacDonald at University of
