 .com/)**'s yearly premiere concert of *Pay It No Mind* in memorandom of Ma
 rsha P. Johnson at **Asylum CoLab**!\n\n**[Cole Reyes](https://www.colerey
 esmusic.com/)** is the winner of NorthStar Duo's call for scores 2023\, ti
 tled *Listening Images: Adaptation and Resilience: Private\, Public\, and 
 Individual Change Makers.* Inspired by a series of two-sentence poems by L
 awson Fusao Inada\, NorthStar Duo saught with this call to musically tell 
 the lives\, impact\, and/or legacy of figures past or present and their di
 ligence as an advocate for change. Void of words\, Listening Images center
 s feelings and authenticity of elements as their own musical language. \n\
 n*Pay It No Mind* is an homage and elegy for Marsha P. Johnson and the ong
 oing effort for queer and trans acceptance in modern society. The title co
 mes from Marsha’s middle initial\, P\, which stood for *Pay It No Mind*.
  After the many hardships found in her life\, the cause of her untimely de
 ath remains disputed. I believe that\, as artists\, it is important to tel
 l these stories in the hopes of spurring change for the future. Though we 
 have come far\, we still have work to do. Throughout the piece\, the voice
  is used first on a closed syllable ‘mm’ that then transforms into an 
 open syllable ‘ah’ later. This represents the voicelessness of the que
 er community and our struggle to find our identity and speak out – the v
 oice of Marsha P. Johnson in her first for justice for queer and trans liv
 es.\n\nThis season will also premiere\, "Tik Tok Sonata"\, a new work by *
 *[Dr. Joshua Oxford](https://www.joshoxford.com/)**.\n\nElectronicist **Jo
 sh Oxford**\, born in 1985\, is a composer\, arranger\, and performer of m
 yriad styles of music. He has performed throughout the world\, especially 
 in his native central New York\, on piano\, percussion\, and synthesizer. 
 After suffering a debilitating car crash in 2010\, Josh has devoted his en
 ergy to composing. He holds degrees in composition  from Arizona State Uni
 versity\, Ithaca College\, and Queens College\, where he was awarded The A
 SCAP Foundation Louis Armstrong Scholarship. He currently lectures on musi
 c technology at Ithaca College. \n\nNorthStar Duo will also perform on thi
 s program commissions from previous seasons\, including *Save One Life\, Y
 ou Save the World Entire* by **[Aaron Jay Myers](http://www.aaronjaymyers.
 com/)**.
