 nOur musical offerings this afternoon will be in three parts. Nicole Faghi
 hi and Jane Spencer Mills will present an art song cycle by SF composer Ja
 ke Heggie called Natural Selection. It traces the arc of a woman who leave
 s her parents' home in search of herself. She isn't sure at the outset wha
 t she really wants but by the end of the journey comes to know that what e
 ver it is\, she is enough. \n\nDiana Gomez will then join Nicole to prese
 nt Sonatine by composer Philippe Gaubert in a duet. \n\nPhilippe Gaubert\
 , 1879 - 1941\, was a renowned flute player\, a student of Paul Taffanel a
 t the Conservatoire de Paris where he later became the professor of flute 
 himself and was the teacher of Marcel Moyse\, a third important name in th
 e world of flautists.  Gaubert had a prominent career as flute player and
  then conductor of the Paris Opera.  He composed many pieces\, primarily 
 for flute. The Sonatine was written during Gaubert’s time as Professor 
 at the Conservatoire de Paris and comprises two movements\, the second bei
 ng a homage to Schumann.\n\nFinally\, all three will share two pieces by K
 yle Hovatter\, Bay Area musician and  composer. These two come from a cy
 cle called Four Poems by Vaschel Lindsay written for flute\, voice and pia
 no. Lindsay's poetry\, written circa 1913\, resonates with our current tim
 es.
