 will start the evening with a sampling of solo and chamber compositions\, 
 including an exclusive sneak peak of Shi-An's in-progress piano suite\, "T
 he Occident." A partner piece to their composition "The Orient\," "The Occ
 ident" explores what "the West" represents in 2026: as idea\, monolith\, a
 nd myth.\n\nFrom there\, we open the floor to you. If you have a sonata\, 
 song\, or other work in your repertoire that muses on the East-West imagin
 ary or related themes\, bring it with you and Shi-An will play along. Just
  let us know in your RSVP if you'd like to claim a slot on the concert's s

 -AN:\n\nDescribed as “…a tour de force…” (Boston Musical Intellige
 ncer)\, pianist and composer Shi-An Costello (b. 1987) has trailblazed a p
 ath truly unique\, with repertoire that spans the aesthetic sensibilities 
 of four centuries. Shi-An's music explores the idea of "transcription\," r
 eal and imaginary\, as a failed attempt to recover lost or forgotten sound
 . His music addresses larger\, thematic ideas like existentialism\, race/e
 thnicity/class\, biological evolution\, and the natural world.\n\nShi-An's
  music has been premiered\, commissioned or featured in recent years at As
 ian American Jazz Festival of Chicago\, Tribeca New Music New York\, Conte
 mporary Arts Center (Cincinnati)\, Alliance Française de Chicago and has 
 been programmed by groups both nationally and internationally.\n\nShi-An c
 urrently works as a session pianist for IFC Films\, IMAX Films\, and indep
 endent Chicagoland productions\, and in the classical/contemporary classic
 al realm\, has performed with members of Orchestre Symphonique de Montréa
 l\, Toronto\, Minnesota\, Milwaukee\, Winnipeg\, Honolulu\, and Thunder Ba
 y Symphonies\, the Lyric Opera Orchestra of Chicago\, Fulcrum Point New Mu
 sic Project\, Dal Niente and Sound Icon. Shi-An is currently staff pianist
  for DePaul University and the Musical Pathways Initiative of the Chicago 
 Symphony Orchestra\, among others.
