 al organized by [Kallos Chamber Music Series](https://www.kalloscms.org/).
  Award-winning pianist **Carter Johnson**\, First Prize winner of the Dubl
 in International Piano Competition and Silver Medalist at the Gina Bachaue
 r International Piano Competition\, brings to life a program that explores
  the echoes of home and memory. Long after we leave a place behind\, its t
 races remain within\; through music of tenderness\, longing\, and resilien
 ce\, this performance reflects on the experiences that continue to shape o
 ur inner landscape. Interweaving **Schumann**'s gracious *Arabeske* and lu
 minous *Ghost Variations* with the contrasting voices of **Schnittke** and
  **Bartók**\, the journey culminates in the former's *Davidsbündlertänz
 e*\, a work that traverses the full spectrum of human emotion.\n\nWine wil

 e Artist**\n\nCelebrated for his warm stage presence\, compelling musical 
 personality\, and cutting-edge programming\, Canadian pianist **Carter Joh
 nson** is known for making classical music speak to all kinds of audiences
 . With playing described as “sincere\, communicative\, and intelligent
 ”\, “drop-dead gorgeous”\, and even “the greatest thing since slic
 ed bread” (Gramophone)\, Johnson's competition laurels include being a f
 inalist in the 2025 Van Cliburn Competition and winner of the 2025 Dublin 
 Competition—the first Canadian to achieve either honor—as well as bein
 g the silver laureate in both the 2025 Honens and 2024 Gina Bachauer Compe
 titions. He is a recipient of the CAG Louis and Susan Meisel Prize.\n \nHi
 ghlights of Johnson's 2026-2027 season include recital appearances at Carn
 egie Hall's Weill Recital Hall\, Spivey Hall\, Merkin Hall\, and Wheaton C
 ollege\, a return engagement with the Montréal Symphony Orchestra\, and d
 ebuts with the Omaha Symphony and Toronto Symphony Orchestra. He makes his
  TSO debut alongside Angela Hewitt in Mozart's Double Concerto. He has pre
 viously appeared with orchestras including the Polish National Radio Symph
 ony\, RTÉ National Symphony\, Calgary Philharmonic\, Utah Symphony\, Fort
  Worth Symphony\, Poznań Philharmonic\, and Victoria Symphony Orchestras\
 , as well as Orchestre Métropolitain and the Orchestra of the Americas. H
 e has also appeared at festivals including the OSM Virée classique\, Fest
 ival of the Sound\, Ottawa Chamberfest\, Miami International Piano Festiva
 l\, Trasimeno Music Festival\, and Festival les Piano Folies du Touquet-Pa
 ris-Plage.\n \nTrained in elocution\, Johnson holds an ATCL with distincti
 on in speech and drama from Trinity College London\, and frequently incorp
 orates this skill into his recitals through spoken commentary. His perform
 ances of Poulenc’s L’histoire de Babar\, le petit éléphant\, in whic
 h he appears as both pianist and narrator\, are beloved by audiences of al
 l ages and backgrounds. Alongside the standard concert repertoire\, he mai
 ntains a strong interest in experimental and interdisciplinary programming
 \; the 2026-2027 season includes his debuts in live improvisation and solo
  harpsichord.\n \nBorn on Vancouver Island\, Johnson began piano studies a
 t age five with Shelley Roberts\, whom he considers one of his most import
 ant influences. He later worked with Michelle Mares before completing a Ba
 chelor of Music at the University of British Columbia with Mark Anderson. 
 He earned a Master of Music at the Juilliard School under Joseph Kalichste
 in and Matti Raekallio\, and a Master of Musical Arts at the Yale School o
 f Music with Wei-Yi Yang\, where he is currently a Doctor of Musical Arts 
 candidate. He also maintains a close artistic relationship with Angela Hew
 itt\, who has been a significant mentor and chamber music partner since fi
 rst hearing him perform Bach in Leipzig.\n \nJohnson resides in Connecticu
 t with his wife Hannah and their three children. Outside of music\, he and
  Hannah enjoy cooking\, gardening\, and spending time outdoors as a family
 .
