DESCRIPTION:Hosted by ARTEK: The Art of the Early Keyboard\nMusicians: \n\n
Before Johann Sebastian Bach became one of classical music’s most toweri
ng figures\, there was another Bach captivating audiences with music of ex
traordinary emotional intensity. *The Profound Bach*\, presented by **ARTE
 K**\, shines a light on **Johann Christoph Bach**\, J. S. Bach’s older c
ousin and the celebrated musical star of the Bach family in 17th-century G
ermany. His expressive cantatas and motets combine soaring vocal lines\, v
irtuosic violin writing\, and deeply affecting sacred music that feels sur
prisingly immediate across the centuries.\n\nFeaturing **soprano Sarah Fre
i\, contralto Kirsten Sollek\, tenor Matthew Newhouse\, and bass Peter Bec
ker**\, alongside a **period-instrument ensemble led by violinist Cynthia
Freivogel and director Gwendolyn Toth**\, the program includes the radiant
wedding cantata *Meine Freundin\, du bist schön* and the haunting lament
*Ach\, dass ich Wassers gnug hätte*. \n\nWith a pre-concert lecture (sta
rting at 6:15) offering insight into the musical world that shaped the Bac
h family\, this is an opportunity to discover a remarkable composer whose
work deserves to be heard far more often. \n\nJoin ARTEK at **Saint Ignati
