Please join us for a unique concert at our apartment gallery - Fou Gallery, which accompanies our current exhibition Zhai Liang: Living Room. We collaborate with Groupmuse to launch this unique event at the closing party of the exhibition, in the hope of bringing an immersive experience of art and music to you.
Fou Gallery is located in a Brooklyn brownstone building built in the 1910s. With the first floor used as a private residence, and the second floor as an exhibition space, the building retains its original architectural features, such as French shutters, plain-colored blinds, wooden floors, fireplaces, and classic crown-molding. In brownstone buildings, the original use of the second floor, was as the living room, sometimes referred to as the parlor room. Apart from the dining room, it was the most important place for social events, such as receiving guests, holding small indoor performances, and hosting salons.
Currently we are having exhibition Zhai Liang: Living Room. This exhibition aims to restore the original role of the "living room." The gallery’s original white walls are turned into large chalkboard murals by artist Zhai Liang on site at Fou Gallery. These works reveal the artist's thoughts and fantasies surrounding the interchangeability between public and private spaces.
During the exhibition, Fou Gallery plans to invite artists, musicians, dancers and other creative people from all professions to re-imagine the "living room." These future activities will produce greater possibilities to enhance the exhibition, as they will continue to produce inspiration and add fuel to the creative engine.
Current Juilliard students bring you the genius young composers of the past.
Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart: Divertimento in D major, K. 136 (composed in 1772 - when Mozart was 16)
Dmitri Shostakovich: Two Pieces for String Quartet (composed in 1931 - when Shostakovich was 25)
i. Elegy: Adagio
ii. Polka: Allegretto
Felix Mendelssohn: String Quartet No.2 in A minor, Op. 13 (composed in 1827 - when Mendelssohn was 18)
i. Adagio - Allegro vivace
ii. Adagio non lento
iii. Intermezzo: Allegretto con moto - Allegro di molto
iv. Presto - Adagio non lento
The theme of this quartet:
"Is it true that you always wait for me there in the leafy path by the grape arbor and ask the moonlight and the little stars about me? Is it true? What I feel can only be understood by someone who feels it with me, and who will stay forever true to me."

This was my first group muse event. It was perfectly delightful. The musicians were excellent and it was a treat to visit the Fou Gallery. I look forward to attending more group muse events and hope to host an event at my house.
