DESCRIPTION:Hosted by Groupmuse\nMusicians: Chelsea Starbuck Smith\, Matt C
onsul\, Katherine Liccardo\, and Mitch Lyon\n\nGroupmuse and Think Olio (t
he Groupmuse of education)* are teaming up to present a new phenomenon cal
led the Oliomuse\, where we combine the magic of Groupmuse with the power
of Think Olio. \n\nWe'll be hearing a **dual lecture/musical performance**
to bring the history of the string quartet to life in BOTH our ears and o
ur minds. Whitney George\, professor at Brooklyn College Conservatory (+co
nductor +composer)\, will be walking us through an exploration of the deve
lopment of the string quartet starting during the late Baroque period and
taking us through to the 21st century. She will be dissecting in detail th
e musical intricacies of each seminal work discussed\, to discover the thr
ead that weaves disparate pieces into a cohesive narrative. \n\nInterspers
ed throughout her lecture will be movements from and fragments of string q
uartet pieces that musically illustrate the lecture\, performed live as we
progress along this musical journey together. The string quartet will be
  performing pieces by Haydn\, Mozart\, Beethoven\, Ravel\, Bartok\, and mo
re. \n\nThere will be **free beer** sponsored by Sixpoint Brewery at this
event\, so come snag a spot on the floor to relax and enjoy the warmth and
double stimulation of this live music lecture! \n\n**A note about our won
derful friends: Think Olio is bringing education to the masses by connecti
ng lifelong learners with lectures and education events normally reserved
for the university setting. Think Olio exists as a conduit for fruitful di
scussions\, a dissent from the regurgitation of facts\, and a distributor
of new perspectives. Check them out [here](http://www.thinkolio.org/).
