    September has always represented new beginnings for Groupmuse. As much as we consider ourselves an unconventional arts organization, for a lot of reasons, we live by the standard arts season, which means September is the start of our new year. The spectacular young conservatory musicians that call our city their home away from home are back in class, folks are back from their trips to the Cape or the Berkshires or even hypothetical, far-flung places that somehow exist beyond the borders of Massachusetts, and everybody is ready to get into gear. So this September, we thought we'd ring in the New Year with an extremely special Massivemuse at the Somerville Armory, featuring our locally legendary friends at Palaver Strings.

    Palaver Strings are not an ordinary ensemble. Bursting at the seams with creativity, warmth, talent, and vision, they create integrated musical experiences of masterworks, popular works, and original arrangements that truly tell a story and speak to the moment of today. The evening they've prepared for September 29th is no exception.

    Something For The Pain

    Our headlines are filled daily with news of violence, in our towns and cities and around the world. We are constantly on the brink of new conflict, faced with widening disparities in wealth, changing economies, the effects of climate change, and the largest wave of migration in recorded history. All the while, tensions and outbreaks of violence in our own country remind us how divided we still are, and how far we still have to go to respect and understand each other. No matter what our backgrounds and views, we feel the weight of this conflicted world. As musicians, we believe music offers some relief, something for the pain, anger, and despair. We also believe that music can bring us together in ways that words cannot, offering time for reflection and peace, if only fleeting.
