Not sure you like string quartets?? Or are you a devotee who rarely gets to hear them in person?
The Thalea String Quartet aims to connect with audiences on a musical, emotional and personal level, from first-time listeners to string quartet aficionados. They are devoted to building a new and diverse audience for chamber music through innovative programming and community engagement. You will know in the affirmative after hearing this group perform!
Each member is as charming as the next! Christopher Whitley (violin) is originally from Toronto, Ontario, Canada, Kumiko Sakamoto (violin) is from Medicine Hat, Alberta, Canada; Luis Bellorín (viola) is from Naperville, Illinois, and Titilayo Ayangade (cello) is from Cincinnati, Ohio.
They are thinking of playing Garth Knox’s Satellites - a modern, hard-not-to-like piece about dimensions. Shostakovich String Quartet No 3. - a wildly original work that manages to combine playfulness with the most profound seriousness. And probably a classic Haydn piece - the originator of the string quartet format!
