Maurizio Pollini is one of the great pianists of the last century. As an 18 year old in 1960, he won first prize at International Chopin Piano Competition, and has spent the 6 decades since looming as one of this art's largest talents. And, because of the work of the Celebrity Series of Boston, this master is spending this Sunday afternoon in our great city, and what's more: the Celebrity Series wants us to join.
We'll gather in the resplendent Symphony Hall for a program that'll begin with a generous serving of the genius for whom Pollini's career-launching prize was named -- Frederic Chopin: The Prélude in C-sharp minor, Op. 45, the Barcarolle in F-sharp Major, Op. 60, and the Sonata No. 2 in B-flat minor, Op. 35.
To complement the monumental oil paintings of sound in the first half, Pollini shares with us the no-less profound watercolors of Claude Debussy with a complete performance of his Préludes, Book II.
The average cost of these tickets is $80, but we're Groupmuse here, and we're all about making these profound experiences as available as we can, so the wonderful folks at the Celebrity Series have given us a stack for $20 -- over 75% off. But they're not likely to last, so hop on it if you want in!
And have a great Afternoon Out!
