Eunghee Cho, cello and Sora Jung, piano bring us the exquisite music of Beethoven's Sonata for Cello and Piano in C Major, Op. 102, No. 1, Nadia Boulanger's 3 Pieces for Cello and Piano , and Samuel Barber's Sonata for Cello and Piano, Op. 6, and the World Premier of Golka's "True Green", inspired by the Rilke poem "Todeserfahrung" (Death Experience).

What's the music?

Eunghee Cho (he/him)

Beethoven: Sonata for Cello and Piano in C Major, Op. 102, No. 1
Described by the composer himself as the "Free Sonata", this late work manages to explore the entire gamut of meditative comfort, angst, terror, and spiritual transcendence all within two remarkably concise movements.

Golka: True Green (World Premiere), this barely 7-minute work was inspired by the Rilke poem "Todeserfahrung" (Death Experience). This work was commissioned by the 2018 Boulder International Chamber Music Competition.

Nadia Boulanger: 3 Pieces for Cello and Piano
Written by one of the most important figures in composition, these three short pieces for cello and piano embody flavors of melancholy, folklore, and fire.

Barber: Sonata for Cello and Piano, Op. 6
Written when the composer was only 23, the sonata's dedicatee wrote that the work was "very cellistic, very singing, … and it takes advantage of the best qualities of the instrument"
