DESCRIPTION:Hosted by Groupmuse\nMusicians: The Martinů Quartet\n\n**NOTE:
Though called a Groupmuse Night Out\, this concert is in the afternoon. I
 t's a branding thing!**\n\n**Antonín Dvořák** is a singular figure in t
he history of classical music. Born to a butcher in the Bohemian heartland
almost almost 180 years ago\, he came of age under the thumb of the Austr
o-Hungarian Empire. With his bottomless musical genius and equally bottoml
ess love for his homeland\, he created a vast body of music that represent
ed a true synthesis of the Czech folk music of his youth and the intricate
ly structured classical music of the concert hall\, and in so doing\, he b
rought the music of his Bohemia to stages and into homes around the world\
, forwarding the Czech struggle for independence in the most melodious way
imaginable. Along the way\, he spent a few years here in New York\, helpi
ng a rising world power build its own\, authentically American classical m
usic. \n\n**The Dvořák American Heritage Association** (DAHA) thankfully
exists to honor that legacy\, and\, lucky for us\, they've invited us alo
ng to their season opening for **[a Groupmuse Night Out](https://www.group
muse.com/events/7069)** at the breathtakingly gorgeous **Bohemian National
  Hall!** \n\nAnd for the occasion\, they've enlisted **the world-renowned
Martinů Quartet**\, now in their 5th decade\, all the way from the Czech
Repulic\, to dive deep into an evening of Dvořák's chamber work masterpi
eces:\n\n**The Terzetto in C Major Opus 74**\n\n**The String Quartet No. 1
2 in F Major Opus 96\, the “American”** -- written during his years in
America and born of the African American and American Indian influences h
e absorbed in his time here.\n\n**The String Quartet No. 14 in A-Flat Majo
r Opus 105**\n\nTickets are the door at $30\, but because it's Groupmuse a
nd DAHA is seriously good people\, **we've got a stack for only $15 -- ful
ly 50% off!** But supplies are finite\, **[so move if you want to join!](h
ttps://www.groupmuse.com/events/7069)**\n\nAnd have a great Night (or Afte
 rnoon...) Out!
