Our Boston Philharmonic Nights Out at Harvard's Sanders Theater have proven to be some of our most popular evenings in Boston and it stands to reason: A spellbindingly beautiful venue, world-class musicianship, some of the greatest masterpieces humanity can lay claim to, and Benjamin Zander's electric and generous spirit leading us through the ins and outs of this miraculous stuff we call music.

And so, we're proudly ready with our next offering -- an evening packed with some of the most dazzling and virtuosic works in the repertoire, reportedly the most technically challenging program the BPO has ever undertaken.

We start in Argentina with Alberto Ginastera and his Variaciones concertantes, a Latinate masterpiece highlighting all of the sounds of the orchestra. Then it's to France with Maurice Ravel's Daphnis and ChloƩ, one of the subtlest, colorful, and richly detailed orchestral soundscapes there's ever been. We finish with the astonishing tone poem, Ein Heldenleben by Richard Strauss -- "A Hero's Journey". It's Strauss at the height of his powers, understanding the potential of every instrument individually and building something staggering with their combined power to tell a story in sound.

Throughout, Benjamin Zander will be our guide to the music as part of the BPO's Discovery Series. Tickets typically average $50, but the BPO must love us: We've got a stack with your names on it for only $20 -- but it's limited and these tend to fly, so move if you want to join!
