Host

The Memory Arts Café is series of events for people living with Alzheimer’s disease, their caregivers and the general public and is co-produced by New York Memory Center and the Alzheimer’s Poetry Project. The series includes light refreshments and the opportunity to chat with the guest artist/s. Everyone is welcome! Along with the standard Group Muse experience of getting a close listen to the musicians, we will have a discussion and ask them about their instruments and what they love about music. A unique aspect of the Memory Arts Café is that the audience creates a group story that we then improvise with the musicians. We will decide on a theme, for example springtime, and then ask a series of open-ended questions around the theme. We might explore the theme through our senses asking, what springtime, sounds like, smells like, tastes like, looks like and feels like. We write down the group's answers and those become the lines of story. We work with the musicians to create an impromptu performance. We then have another chance to socialize, eat, drink and get to know each other. Please join us for our first Group Muse/ Memory Arts Café.
