San Francisco Performances

It’s such a joy to be able to continue to expand the Bay Area Groupmuse family, even after 5 happy years of happy here. New partners, collaborators, comrades in the fight to make our communities more beautiful and profound keep coming out of the woodwork of this magnificent and culturally rich corner of the world. And so, we’re proud to declare that on May 12th, we're heading to our favorite Herbst Theatre, to have our first-ever Night Out with Chamber Music San Francisco!

For 15 years, they’ve brought the world’s best musicians through our city and for their penultimate performance of this season, they’ve got quite the feast.

The Archetti Baroque String Ensemble - an octet of early musicians of the highest order are unleashing masterpieces that continue to reverberate through the ages, centuries after their inception.

First it’s Bach, of the J.S. variety, with his Brandenburg Concerto no. 4 followed by his Double Violin Concerto. It’s hard to describe these pieces without resorting to superlatives, so I won’t even try: Best. Most inspired and complex and thrilling and moving. Eternal.

They’re followed by the Suite in G Major by Henry Purcell - arguably England’s greatest musical spirit until John Lennon wakes up.

They’ll follow with the Concerto for Two Recorders in A minor by Georg Telemann who was, in his day, thought to be possessed of a talent superior to that of Bach, which is… well… everyone’s entitled to their opinion… but let’s just say the ages have brought some wisdom after all...

We finish with a Concerto Grosso by the Anglo-Dutch master Pieter Hellendaal.

Tickets typically run $40, but we’ve scored you a half-off stack of $20! But supplies are limited, so boogie!

And have a great Night Out!
