We’ve got something of a cosmic alignment on our hands:

  • A piano quintet from Berlin is coming through town. They’re some of the best young players in Europe, and the pianist, a French-Malagasi virtuoso named Yannick Rafalimanana was one of the founding forefathers of Groupmuse back in Boston almost a decade ago. He’s amazing.

  • During that same span of time, the Smithsonian Museum is fixing to host a Massivemuse in the Ripley Center’s spacious Concourse.

  • You, dear reader, happen to be free on the night of Saturday, May 25th, right?

It’s perfect, people! We’re heading to the Smithsonian for a Massivemuse!

The band will have the enormous and glorious Piano Quintet by Mieczysław Weinberg at the ready. Weinberg was a Jewish Soviet composer who lost most of his family in the Holocaust and was almost killed by the Soviet regime after the war. Shostakovich, a close friend and admirer interceded on his behalf. Weinberg’s music is finally receiving the recognition it deserves and this piano quintet is of its crowning jewels.

We’ll have a cash bar and we ask that you bring your own blanket, floor cushion, lawn chair, yoga mat — whatever your booty prefers - because this is groupmuse and we aim to get cozy on the floor! What's more: at intermission, we'll be able to wander the Concourse exhibits - Biomes: Life in the Balance, and A Unique Lens: Photographs from the Smithsonian Family.

Tickets are $20 and well see you there!
