Hosts

If you find yourself wanting to escape the city one last time before Labor Day hits, come join us for an enchanting evening of strings and port-town vibes in beautiful Portsmouth New Hampshire!

Hosted in an antique barn overlooking the Piscataqua River, this concert marks the inaugural performance of Palaver Strings' Beehive Chamber Series, a selection of music for string quartet exploring both the intricacies of the classical repertoire and the lilting melodies of the folk tradition.

Featuring timeless masterworks of Beethoven and Haydn, as well as evocative Danish folk tunes, this evening should prove to be a summer Groupmuse like no other!

PS—If you're feeling inspired to head up earlier in the day to stroll around town, we'll be congregating at 5pm for a cookout and social hour at nearby Four Tree Island Park, which is in walking distance to the barn. Bring your drinks and grilling accoutrements!!

Palaver Strings: The Beehive Series
INDEPENDENT MARRIAGE

With the inaugural concert of Palaver Strings’ Beehive Chamber Series, we combine music from the giants of the string quartet genre with contemporary arrangements of traditional folk melodies. We start off the program with Haydn’s Quartet Op. 20, No. 3, from the first set of quartets he wrote. This piece beautifully exemplifies why Haydn would become known as the “Father of the String Quartet;” his use of each instrument as an independent voice was groundbreaking, and paved the way for everything that followed. Like many of Palaver’s programs, this selection of chamber music reflects our love for both the intricacies of the classical repertoire and the lilting melodies of the folk tradition. We believe the marriage of the two is a beautiful thing.

String Quartet Op. 59, No. 1, Beethoven
Sonderho Bridal Trilogy, Danish String Quartet
String Quartet Op. 20, No 3, Haydn
