Host

Hello, and welcome to my third Groupmuse!

We admire Mozart's musical genius and the Classical style he came to embody in Vienna. But who were some of the composers and musicians who shaped Mozart’s musical perspectives? What does his music sound like on earlier keyboard instruments, including the harpsichord, which he played throughout his life?

This program explores the harpsichord music that Mozart himself admired. Ultimately, we will hear another part of the rich musical landscape that Mozart resided in, with music by J.C. Bach, Johann Schobert, Marianna Martines and, of course, Mozart himself.

All of the music will be performed on a replica inspired by a 17th-century Flemish harpsichord.

What's the music?

Jonathan Salamon Solo Harpsichord

Mozart - Early Pieces (K. 1 & 33b)
Johann Schobert - Sonata in E-flat, Op. 14 No. 1
J.C. Bach - Sonata in D, Op. 5 No. 2
- intermission -
Marianna Martines - Sonata in G
Mozart - Fantasia in D minor, K. 397
