Fairsted hasn't set up their next groupmuse, yet.
Opened in 2013 by longtime friends Andrew Foster and Steve Bowman, Fairsted Kitchen is a neighborhood restaurant celebrating the history and flavors of Brookline.
The restaurant name is taken from the Fairsted estate, the residence, office, and National Historic Site of Frederick Law Olmsted. Recognized as the founder of American landscape architecture, Olmsted’s works spans all 48 continental states and include Central Park, Niagra Falls State Park, and the campuses of UC Stanford & Berkely.
The flavors on our menu reflect the incredible melting pot of Brookline’s past. Drawing on the rich immigrant history that has created modern Brookline, Chef Stephanie Cmar brings the spices and techniques of North Africa, the Middle East, and Eastern Europe to play against background of classic American fare.
The décor and atmosphere mirrors the old Victorian homes of the neighborhood. Designed to create the feeling of “Grandma’s Living Room” the restaurant houses reclaimed antiques from old Boston homes, vintage crystal cocktail glasses, and mismatched antique china and silverware. Many of our service pieces have been found in antique shops and thrift store by co-owner and sommelier Steve Bowman’s parents and old family friends.
Olmsted created the Emerald Necklace that runs through Brookline, stretching from the Back Bay to Dorchester. But Brookline was his home, and every day our team walks through his legacy. In 1886, his work expanding Beacon Street created Washington Square which has become one of Boston’s most desirable neighborhoods. Olsmted laid out the homes on Aspinwall Hill overlooking the restaurant, saving the prized lot at the very top for a public park that still exists today. It’s from that focus on the community that Fairsted derives its emphasis on shared plates and family style dining.
