About

Born in Costa Rica, Maria Pia Bourne has been known as a respected performer and chamber musician.

In Costa Rica, she started her music education at the “Centro Nacional de la Musica” in 2004. While in Costa Rica, she performed with orchestras such as The National Youth Orchestra, Costa Rica National Orchestra and Costa Rica Philharmonic, under the baton of conductors such as Daniel Nazareth, Irwin Hoffman and Steven Karidoyanes.

In 2012, Maria Pia relocated to Boston, Massachusetts where she received her Undergraduate Diploma at the Longy School of Music of Bard College as a student of Mihail Jojatu . During her time in Boston, she has performed with orchestras such as Longy Conservatory Orchestra, Asian American Youth Orchestra, New England Repertory Orchestra, among others. In 2013, she was selected to participate with The American Symphony Orchestra and the Bard Conservatory Orchestra for the tenth Anniversary of the Fisher Center of Performing Arts at Bard College, under the leadership of Leon Botstein.

Maria Pia has played in masterclasses for cellists such as Matt Haimovitz, Terry King, Bernhard Loercher, Raman Ramakrishnan, Thomas Schmitz (Signum String Quartet), Kurt Baldwin, Watson Cliss, Claudio Jaffe, and Marek Jerie.
