About

Hailed as “radiant” by the Boston Globe, Angela Yam has sung with the New York City Ballet, Santa Fe Opera, Boston Baroque, Chautauqua Opera, and Opera Saratoga. In the 2023-24 season, she joined Boston Lyric Opera as an Emerging Artist and made her company debuts with Opera Parallèle, Opera Memphis, Guerilla Opera, and Perelman PAC NYC.

Recent credits include the title role of Cavalli’s La Calisto (Opera Memphis), Johanna in Sondheim’s Sweeney Todd (Chautauqua Opera, Opera Saratoga) and Diana in Gluck’s Iphigénie en Tauride (Boston Baroque), a role for which she was praised by the Boston Globe as “radiant”, as “Yam brought gleaming clarity” and “fitting rococo brilliance” (Boston Classical Review, The Arts Fuse).

World premieres include Mumei in Kenji Oh’s The Emissary (Opera Parallèle), Siren 1 in Ellis Ludwig-Leone & Karen Russel’s The Night Falls (BalletCollective), and Agave (cover) in John Corigliano’s The Lord of Cries (Santa Fe Opera).

Music

Angela Yam is a vocalist, awarded for her work in opera, musical theater, chamber music, early music, recitals, and ensemble singing. She is known for thoughtful programming and commitment to character. She has premiered several new operas, and has been heralded for her "radiant," "gleaming clarity," and has been described as “stellar…a Puccini-esque soprano with incredible highs." She is also one half of the band DREAMGLOW, which performs improvisations and classical music with an avant garde pop style. She graduated with a Graduate Diploma from the New England Conservatory of Music in 2021.
