About
Born in New York and raised in Brooklyn and Long Island, I began playing the guitar at age 11. I've earned a DMA : Yale University, under Benjamin Verdery a
BA from Stony Brook University, with Jerry Willard. Other studies include North Indian Classical Music under Vasant Rai and attending the Aspen Music School and Banff School of Fine Arts studying with masters Oscar Ghiglia, Sharon Isbin, and Leo Brouwer.
I spent over 20 years in Europe, before returning to New York.
I've held teaching roles at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, the University of Strathclyde (as a Lecturer and Musical Director of the Guitar Ensemble), and the San Francisco Conservatory.
I've performed with major orchestras including the Royal Scottish National Orchestra, the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, and the Scottish Chamber Orchestra. My album ...from the hook to the hill features solo guitar music.
I continues to perform actively and lead the with the "Guitarand..." concert series in NYC.
Music
Baroque & Classical: My own transcriptions of J.S. Bach (e.g., Fuga and Siciliano from Violin Sonata BWV 1001). My 19th-century repertoire includes Mauro Giuliani’s Grand Overture, Mozart Variations and chamber works by Paganini and Boccherini.
20th Century Masterpieces: I perform landmark works such as:
de Falla: Homenaje pour "Le tombeau de Claude Debussy" and Siete canciones populares españolas. Ginastera: Guitar Sonata, Op. 47. Reich: Electric Counterpoint for live guitar and tape and Berio's Sequenza.
I enjoy performing Villa Lobos, Tedesco, Morel and many more of the Romantic tradition.
