About
Hi! I'm a trombonist, improviser, and cooperative organizer working at the confluences of music, spirituality, and social transformation.
Keeping up as a trombonist has always been an important part of this work, which has also brought wonderful opportunities to perform and teach throughout the Americas since my first gigs in Chile and Bolivia with Los Andes Big Band over 20 years ago. I love playing all kinds of music composed for trombone, with the possible exception of sitting in the back of an orchestra counting rests. Some highlights include opening for John Zorn with a rotating cast of improvising duos, performing the superbone solo in a recreation of Don Ellis's Strawberry Soup, and performing with over 100 fellow trombonists in Santa Fe, Argentina with the Trombonanza Trombone Choir.
Music
Over the past decade, my path as an improvising musician and practicing Buddhist has taken me deeper into the practices of mindfulness, free jazz, and Deep Listening. In 2019 I received a Teaching EARtificate from the Center for Deep Listening, founded by Pauline Oliveros, and incorporate her work and concepts into my practice. These performances are intended to connect audience and performers with the creative potentials of whatever happens next—all of us, together—and resonate with my commitments to cooperative organizing.
