About

I am a Jazz vocalist whose work spans traditional Jazz from its inception, to Broadway, cabaret, and contemporary songs with a Jazzy twist as a soloist, with ensembles, and Big Bands. Core members of my group, MC3, are Roch Bordenave (valve trombone) and Paul Mesches (guitar). Roch, from LA, has toured with Mel Tormé's Jazz Orchestra, Eddie Kendricks & David Ruffin, Martha Reeves, Three Dog Night, Mary Wells & more, and is a Doctor Wu, and Malibu Horns member. Mary has sung in LA at Urban Press Winery, Annenberg Beach House in Santa Monica, with LA Love Band, Dave Leech Trio at Pip’s, Del Rey Jazz Band, Top Hat Big Band, and at various private events. In NYC, Mary has performed at the historic Swing 46 Jazz Supper Club, in off-Broadway productions, and in numerous NY clubs. Paul Mesches, from LA, has composed, arranged and conducted for TV, film, commercials, and industrials in NYC, Nashville, and LA, and currently plays with various LA Big Bands.

Music

I usually sing songs from The Great American Songbook - popular tunes, Jazz standards, Broadway and movie musicals, and Tin Pan alley songs from the early-to-mid 20th century. Whether torch songs, songs about life, love or location, or songs of hope and joy, my mission is always to share the song's story and its emotional content with listeners. I initially learned many of these songs at a very young age from records played in my childhood home and from the radio. My formal studies were at Carnegie Hall Studios for period of time with Frances Overholt. My favorite composers? Gershwin, Berlin, Ellington, Strayhorn, Dorothy Fields, and the Broadway greats, as well Peter Allen, Leon Russell, Billy Joel, and Stevie Wonder (not enough space to name them all!)
