Piano
About
I began studying classical piano at the age of five. From an early age, the instrument became a place of companionship, catharsis, and self-exploration. Through the music of Bach, Chopin, Brahms, and Beethoven, I experienced and explored a lineage of composers who used the piano as a vehicle for both structural beauty and deep emotional expression. At the same time, I was raised in an environment where folk music was part of everyday life. My original compositions reflect the meeting of these two lineages: the harmonic and expressive depth of the classical piano tradition alongside the melodic directness and earthy spirit of folk music, as well as hints of jazz, and Eastern European flavors that have impressed themselves upon me over time. The passionate relationship I have with music and my instrument is also reflected in my relationship with the wilderness, with community, and through my vocation as a depth psychotherapist.
Music
I perform only original compositions—contemplative musical inquiries that grow from a foundation in Bach, Chopin, Brahms, and Beethoven, and others, carrying traces of harmonic depth and structural intention of that tradition. They are equally shaped by folk music of eastern and western cultures.
These pieces are also expressions of lived experience—the kind that resist language, that words approach but cannot translate. To share them is not to perform so much as to be with others as I am with these compositions intimately, and in their unique arrival and expression each time they are played.
