Valery Breshears, 17, began violin at age 2 and was accepted to the San Francisco Conservatory of Music at 5. She is a Thibaudet Scholar at the Colburn Academy, studying with Margaret Batjer, and serves as Concertmaster and Principal Second of the Colburn Virtuosi Ensemble.

A 2025 Johansen International String Competition First Prize winner and Stulberg laureate, Valery is also a 2026 YoungArts Young Artist with Distinction and 2021 Jack Kent Cooke Young Artist Award recipient. She has studied at the Accademia Chigiana, Shkolnikova Academy, and Music Academy of the West.

She has worked with Jean-Yves Thibaudet, Dmitry Sitkovetsky, and Missy Mazzoli, among others. Her former quartet, the Breshears String Quartet, won First Prize at the 2023 Piero Farulli International Competition and Silver Medal at the 2024 Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition.

Music

I play mostly classical music. For example, music by Bach, Mozart, and Beethoven.
