Young Concert Artists (YCA) has, for decades, been a leading cultivator of talent for the rising generation of classical musicians — finding the brightest from around the country and giving them the resource and network support they need to thrive. And, along the way, they put on absolutely great concerts with the brilliant, vivacious talent they surround themselves with.
These artists have got the fire of youth and it shows, YCA performances are always spellbinding. And this concert is no exception. On Wednesday, April 20th at 7:30pm YCA is putting on a program entitled "I SEE LIGHT" whereby the audience will meet composers, poets, and characters who fight hard to tell their stories despite barriers to being heard. The evening features works by Undine Smith Moore, Cécile Chaminade, Rued Langgaard, Fanny Mendelssohn, Schubert, and Schumann, as well as works from LYNX’s Amplify Series for Neurodiversity, and a fully staged reimagining of Handel’s Lucrezia cantata in collaboration with Mary Birnbaum. The program calls our attention to our innate need to be heard, and challenges us to reflect on how we are listening.
Although the average cost of a seat costs $45 for this performance, YCA has made a limited number of tickets available to Groupmuse community members for only $20 (and $15 for Supermusers). Get yours today!
More information about this program can be found here.
The last piece on this program is a 20-minute partially staged version of Handel’s Lucretia, which deals with the topics of rape and suicide. It won’t be graphic, but may be triggering for some and considered sensitive material for young children.
