Join us at our favorite whiskey distillery MÔTÔ Spirits for a musical celebration featuring trumpeter Chris Williams and bassist Rick Robinson!
We’ll open up the evening with a jazz trio led by Chris Williams, a powerful force on the trumpet who is a staple of the New York free jazz community, and has worked with renowned creators of experimental art and music. His work explores the duality of ancestral trauma and power existing in all Black Americans, leading to the creation of his pieces such as I Ain’t Got No Spare (2019) which interweaves homemade electronics, sound, and projection.
Then, Philadelphia-based bassist, Rick Robinson will take the stage. Rick was invited into the Detroit Symphony Orchestra in 1989, becoming its second African-American member. He resigned this position 22 years later to emerge as a composer, director and a leading voice for sharing classical music with the broader American public. He is also a composer and will share his work City of Trees –- an homage to the Dutch elm trees in the Detroit enclave of Highland Park where he grew up.
Doors open at 7:00pm. Music begins at 7:30pm.
Alcoholic drinks will be sold by MÔTÔ Spirits at the entrance. (This is not a BYOB event.) Please enjoy this distillery's offerings to support this amazing local business!
