This is going to be a very unusual groupmuse, with Lev (Ljova) Zhurbin (fadolin) and Kaethe Hostetter (violin), and I'm really looking forward to hosting them!

Ljova, a close collaborator of Yo-Yo Ma and the Silkroad Ensemble, leader of Ljova and the Kontraband and Trio Fadolín presents selections from "Enter The Fadolín", an ongoing development of new repertoire exploring the solo acoustic fadolín, a unique string instrument encompassing the full range of the violin, viola, and most of the cello. Initially intended as a travelogue, and continuing through the pandemic via social media livestreams, on-street busking and house concerts –– Ljova has premiered and recorded over an hour’s worth of recital and training material for himself and future generation of fadolínists. Alongside original works, Ljova performs works by Bach, Dvorak, and his father, Alexander Zhurbin. More about Ljova's work here: https://Ljova.com

The solo project of Kaethe Hostetter (Debo Band, QWANQWA, Fred Frith) uses violin with effects and light looping to touch on impressions of the 11 years that she called Addis Ababa her home. A mix of traditional and original music and some storytelling are used to share a personal journey and be a door to a world that is now undergoing serious ethnic conflict. More about Kaethe's work here: https://www.kaethehostetter.com/

Doors open at 7 pm, music will start around 7:30 pm.

My apartment is a spacious studio in Central Harlem, with plenty of comfy floor pillows and chairs. I will also provide light refreshments. This is a no-shoes apartment, please take your shoes off upon entering.
