Hello and Happy Holidays! A warm welcome to old friends and new to our cheerful, cozy Glen Park living room (with roaring fire if we have a December chill) for a wonderful performance by the amazing and amicable pianist Ian Sharpe (founding member of the local Groupmuse). Ian will briefly discuss the background of each piece or composer in his romantic program, and there will be light refreshments (BYOB) and a social time afterwards to ask questions. Guests who are pianists are welcome then to play "The Duchess" (a holiday carol perhaps?), our rebuilt and refurbished 1927 Steinway Model M which is tuned to an especially warm, gentle 432 Hz pitch. We love making new musical friends and hope you will attend. We are taking care to be especially careful about everyone's health (and ours because we have aged parents with whom we interact) so kindly abide by our anti-Covid requests (honor system). Hosts will be masking but guests are not required to do so. We have three sedate, mannered sibling older cats, however they shall be confined to quarters upstairs during the event and beforehand we shall do our best to quell and vacuum away any evidence!

What's the music?

Chopin - Selected Preludes
Albeniz - Mallorca: Barcarola
Chopin - Barcarolle
Granados - Spanish Dances
Chopin - Bolero
De Falla - Ritual Dance of Fire

Where does this music come from?

This program takes our audience on a midwinter's journey to warmer climes.
We will visit the southern coast of Spain, with Spanish Dances from Andalusia and Seville, the Mediterranean isle of Mallorca, with Chopin's Preludes and Albeniz's Barcarola. And we will explore one of the greatest works by Frederic Chopin - his impressionistic and operatic visit to Venice, the "Barcarolle, Op. 60".

Hello everyone, "Just a Note!" Ron and I are excited that our first hosting of a Groupmuse Holiday Soiree piano event at our home on Dec. 16 is almost all booked! We just added two chairs, so now there are four seats left. If you have any musical friends who might be up for a warm welcome, light refreshments (BYOB), and wonderful Romantic era music by an awesome pianist, Ian Scarfe, please refer them to this registration page. Two of Ann's additional friends are considering reserving, so please don't delay! One final note: Ann attended a piano recital for 12 folks this past Sunday Oct. 8th and was fully masked throughout (other students did not mask), and just today Weds., a parent in attendance (who was masked) reported that he tested positive for Covid. Because Ann was so careful we are not too worried but will test ourselves this weekend. Covid is back with us again for the winter as the news has predicted, so a reminder to please seek out and obtain your updated booster before our event, and have handy a home test by the morning of Dec. 16 to test yourself. We obtained our boosters this past Saturday at SoSF Kaiser's drive thru tent (no side effects except a super mild injection site soreness for a day or two), but we know some CVS's are backlogged in the City and Moderna does not yet have their booster on the market. Hopefully more vaccine will soon be available. Stay safe and enjoy our Bay Area's lovely fall weather! See you soon, Ann and Ron

Looking forward to meeting new friends and welcoming old at our Glen Park piano Groupmuse Holiday Soiree on Sat., Dec. 16 (arrival time 7:30 pm with performance by Ian Scarfe at 8 pm; refreshments served/BYOB). Please remember to have your most recent Covid booster and test the day before or morning of the event, as the hosts will. We appreciate your care for the well-being of all attendees. Stay safe when out and above this busy holiday season! Call or text if you have questions: 415 587-3863. Warmly, Ann Grogan and Ron Choy
