Erich Buchholz's repertoire includes opera and operetta arias and art songs from many different composers of classical music. Bizet, Schubert, Mascagni, Chopin and Sorozabal are composers you might hear at his concert. He accompanies himself on ukulele, and brings the volume and tone of his voice down to match the soft string instrument. It's a croony, lullaby version of the arias you know and love. It's like hearing the music "from the inside out".

Before 2020, Erich's last engagement was singing Weill's "Seven Deadly Sins" in Germany with Ute Lemper and the Kammerakademie Potsdam. He sang the part of Fridolin on the Naxos recording of "The Rose of Stambul" by Leo Fall.

What's the music?

Where does this music come from?

This program and style of performance stems from the year 2020, where I suddenly was out of work with gobs of time to practice. During the many hours of noodling around on my ukulele I developed a style which features operatic arias and classical songs, but instead of the usual full-throated approach to singing that fills a theater, I sing in a quiet lullaby-style with a very simplified ukulele accompaniment. It's like hearing the music from the inside out.
