Program:
33 Variations on a Waltz by Anton Diabelli, Op. 120
(about a one hour performance with some spoken word}

Beethoven's 33 short variations of a waltz by the Austrian music publisher Anton Diabelli (1781-1858) are considered among the greatest variations in the entire piano repertoire, in the minds of many musicians equaled only by Bach's Goldberg Variations. In 1819 Diabelli, a dilettante who was more a music publisher than composer, wrote a simple waltz melody and asked several dozen Viennese composers — among them Franz Schubert, Carl Czerny, one of Mozart's two sons, and the then 9-year old Franz Liszt — to write a single variation.

The host will provide two hot hors d'oeuvres, maybe a side dish and punch or 3xfiltered water for a potluck reception when doors open, and following the performance. Guests are welcome to bring food and wine to share as well; if considering a sweet, think about fruit instead of processed sugar. Music begins 30 minutes after doors open; please arrive on time.

GroupMuse Ticket&Registration $25, or Advance payment of $21 PayPal PayMe Link, or mail check to host at least 7 days in advance. Please NO CASH at the event (illegal in MD). Expecting 10 to 20 attendees total. Actual performance lasts about 75 minutes.

Accessibility Note: 3 steps on walkway to entry hall, 30-inch doors inside.
