🎶 About Adrienne Baker:
Adrienne is a flutist and interdisciplinary performance artist dedicated to exploring the connections between music, storytelling, and community. Her work often engages themes of memory, healing, and cultural reflection, blending visual and musical elements to create thoughtful, immersive experiences. Her compositions reflect a mix of traditional and modern sensibilities.
Her compositions reflect a mix of traditional and modern sensibilities and mediums, from acoustic to amplified instruments and additionally with effects. Original works of hers include I Wish I Knew How It Would Feel to Be Free with effects pedals and the playful Pug Suite for Flute and Cello. She is also an active performer and freelancer and her engagements have included Ratatouille: A TikTok Musical and Barbie in Concert with The Sinfonietta, the Sugar Hill Salon collective and concert series, commissions and premieres with NorthStar Duo, including others.
🩰 About Melissa Almaguer:
Melissa is a New York City-based tap dancer, performer, educator, and creator from Mexico, trained by Jessica Flores, Marcela Treviño, and later, Derick K. Grant in NYC. As a leading tap artist from Mexico, she has performed in works by Dormeshia, Derick Grant, Jason Samuels Smith, Jumaane Taylor, and Christina Carminucci. A seasoned improviser, Melissa has collaborated with artists like Moor Mother, Irreversible Entanglements, William Parker, and the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra with Wynton Marsalis. In just two years in NYC, she has graced prestigious venues such as Lincoln Center, The Joyce Theater, National Sawdust, and The Jazz Gallery.
Melissa is the bandleader of praesēns and Angel of Water/Angel of Air, improvisation collectives focused on healing through sound. She is also the producer of Oye Como Va and My Favorite Things, groundbreaking tap shows in Latin America. As an educator, Melissa teaches at Steps on Broadway and Harlem School of the Arts and has led workshops globally, including in Paris, London, Barcelona, and Mexico City.
