Have you heard? Groupmuse recently turned 10,000! Just a few weeks back, our platform published its 10,000th groupmuse and we’re taking this monumental watershed for our humble movement as an occasion to celebrate what we’ve all built together, through the years, through the living rooms, through the shared experience of timeless music-in-community.
And, as part of our season of 10,000, the absolutely brilliant Zachary Mowitz, cellist of the Los Angeles Philharmonic, who’s played many a groupmuse over the years, is gifting us a performance. That’s right: all of the money raised at this groupmuse will go to The Groupmuse Foundation — our 501c3 that helps to fund the ecosystem and keep our community healthy and thriving. And it’s happening in the beautiful home of Greg and Carin Castelnuovo-Tedesco, who’ve hosted so very many soulful gatherings for our lovely community.
We’ll have two sets of solo cello music, and at intermission, Groupmuse founder Sam Bodkin will (briefly) tell the tale of 10,000 groupmuses: how we began, how we got here, and where we’re going next — with your support, of course! 💖🎶🙏
So if you’ve ever loved a groupmuse, if one of our wholesome neighborhood gatherings has ever lit you up and made you feel more alive and less alone in this stormy world, please join and contribute generously — so that before long, we may notch our 100,000th groupmuse!
What's the music?
J.S. Bach Suite for Solo Cello No. 3 in C Major, BWV 1009 (full)
BREAK
J.S. Bach Suite for Solo Cello No. 2 in D Minor, BWV 1008
I. Prelude
Ira Mowitz Suite for Solo Cello (2018)
IV. Sarabande
J.S. Bach Partita for Solo Violin No. 2 in D minor, BWV 1004
V. Chaconne
Where does this music come from?
All music by the great Johann Sebastian Bach, with a movement from my own father's Suite for Solo Cello thrown into the mix! I'm excited to share one of Bach's legendary cello suites, along with a Sarabande my father wrote that was directly inspired by Bach. Finishing the program will be the iconic Chaconne, which I've arranged for solo cello.
