What's the music?
Music to Be Remembered By is a workshop and live music performance in which we explore the transformative power of music to bring communities together around grief and loss. We consider ways in which we can communicate how we want to be memorialized to our friends and family giving them the power to honor our legacy and values.
Where does this music come from?
Historically speaking, music has had a place within grieving and mourning practices throughout time and across culture. We explore the tradition of funeral music as it shifts and changes to reflect a culture whose values move towards environmental preservation and community care. This program features historical funeral music as well as contemporary music written by composer, performer and death doula Concetta Abbate.
