Bio
What's the music?
The Legacy String Quartet will perform Beethoven's String Quartet, Op. 59 No. 7. Beethoven wrote his "Razumovsky" String Quartets in 1806 in Vienna, dedicated to Count Razumovsky. This piece was originally written for one of the first major quartets to exist, the Schuppanzigh quartet.
The Legacy String Quartet is just barely 1 years old, with a fierce determination to shine new light on classic pieces of music. Legacy String Quartet had made their Carnegie Hall debut in January, along with their debut at the Tilles Center, and soon to be a main feature of the Vanderbilt Estate of Centerport.
Where does this music come from?
Beethoven wrote this piece for the Schuppanzigh Quartet, which considered one of the first virtuoso quartets of the 19th century. Each movement of the 1st Razumovsky Quartet in F major swiftly moves between moods, showcasing the entire range of each instruments capabilities while mainting a sharp sense of humor. This quartet also was impressive at the time for it's length, which rivals that of a symphonic performance. This piece is still a fundamental part of any quartets repetoire, and still stands as a standard of string quartet composition.
