Dynamic and engaging, concert pianist Francesca Hurst delights audiences with a mix of classical and contemporary music. Listeners have described her playing as “moving and compelling” and “powerful yet sensitive”. At ease with a wide range of repertoire, she makes sense of the music regardless of style and period, is passionate about communicating with audiences, and has a special interest in performing music by women.
Francesca has appeared as a guest artist at festivals like the Atlantic Music Festival, New Music Delaware, New Music Gathering, Charlotte New Music Festival, and the Bang on a Can Music Marathon, and has performed at the Kennedy Center, the National Gallery of Art, and abroad in Bulgaria, Italy, Portugal, and France. During the pandemic, she created the 100-day online video series Daily Dose of Piano, which featured music from the Baroque to today, including 14 premieres. She is on the Virginia Commission for the Arts Performing Artist Touring Roster.
Francesca teaches piano and directs the piano pedagogy curriculum at The Catholic University of America, and maintains a private studio in Annandale, VA. She is also on the faculty of the Orfeo Music Festival in Italy. She is an MTNA Nationally Certified Teacher of Music, and is often invited to adjudicate competitions and give lectures and workshops. www.francescahurst.com
Having grown up in Russia and in the United States, Arman Tigranyan has benefited from a musical education in an international context. His ability to unite the musical traditions and forms of expression of various cultures and countries makes him an outstanding representative of his generation of conductors. His mentor Paavo Järvi says about him: “Arman's charismatic yet precise conducting style unwavering attention to detail, as well as the gift of capturing all actors, make him a very fine and special musician, and conductor. His profound understanding of ensemble psychology empowers him to swiftly and efficiently achieve exceptional results.”
In recent seasons, Arman Tigranyan's engagements have led him on a tour of South Korea with the renowned Svetlanov State Academic Symphony Orchestra of Russia. His captivating performances have included Tchaikovsky's 5th Symphony and collaborative endeavors with the legendary South Korean pianist Kun-woo Paik, presenting the first piano concerto.
