I'm delighted to welcome back Ryan Soeyadi on piano and Jihyun Baik on violin to celebrate composer Franz Schubert's 229th birthday with an evening of beautiful gems (of course, mostly by Schubert)!
Doors open at 7 pm, music starts around 7:30 pm.
What's the music?
Schubert - Violin Sonatina in D major, D. 384
Brahms - Violin Sonata No.3, Op. 108 (2nd & 3rd mvm.)
Leonard Fu - Albumblatt
Schubert - Fantasie in C major, D. 934
Where does this music come from?
This program celebrates Franz Schubert’s birthday on the eve by placing his music with works from different eras. Beginning with the youthful Schubert sonatina, the program moves to Brahms’s Violin Sonata No. 3, whose larger scale and intensity offer a striking contrast in sound and emotional scope. A contemporary miniature by Leonard Fu creates a moment of intimacy and reflection, before the program returns to Schubert in the Fantasy on “Sei mir gegrüßt,” a work that blurs the boundary between song and instrumental fantasy.
