After wowing audiences in Counterpoint earlier this year, pianist Conrad Tao returns to Vivo with a deeply personal solo program that blends structure and spontaneity, intimacy and imagination. Hailed by The New York Times for his “probing intellect and open-hearted vision,” Tao shapes an evening where Romantic lyricism and contemporary sound worlds speak directly to one another.

Poetry and Fairy Tales weaves together selections from Johannes Brahms’s Klavierstücke, Op. 118 — tender, introspective late works — with evocative modern pieces by David Fulmer, Rebecca Saunders, and Todd Moellenberg. The journey culminates in Maurice Ravel’s Gaspard de la nuit, a dazzling, story-driven tour de force of color and virtuosity. Across the program, mood and narrative unfold in shifting reflections — lyrical, shadowed, and electrifying by turns.

✨ Thanks to Groupmuse Nights Out, discounted tickets (only $20 for a $65 seat!) are available for this performance. Turn your Sunday afternoon into something special while supporting local artistry at an affordable price.
