What's the music?
Program:
Selected short works by Beethoven, Berio, and Chopin
Dodds - Piano Sonata: American Dreams
Beethoven - Piano Sonata Op. 111
Beethoven’s late style contains sonic and formal inventions that pave the way for centuries of music. Using Beethoven’s late piano works as a point of departure and a place to return to, perhaps we can appreciate the timelessness of this music in a new way.
I’ll begin with a collage of short works from Beethoven’s Op. 126 Bagatelles, Berio’s Encores, alongside one of my favorite Chopin Nocturnes. Next - the soft premier of my own piano sonata. Concluding with Beethoven’s final piano sonata.
