What's the music?

Bach to Bach: An Evening of Baroque Duets
Please join us for a cozy evening of cello duets, featuring beloved works by J.S. Bach and other composers.

I. The Pure Bach

Prelude from Cello Suite No. 1 in G Major, BWV 1007 (arr. for two cellos)
Opening with this beloved work, Bach's first cello suite, composed around 1720, is one of the most known and cherished works in the cello repertoire.

Selections from Two-Part Inventions (arr. for two cellos)
Demonstrating Bach's masterful counterpoint in a new voice

II. Bach Reimagined

Variation No. 1 from the Goldberg Variations (arr. for two cellos)
A fresh perspective on one of Bach's most profound works

Sarabande from Cello Suite No. 6 in D Major, BWV 1012 (arr. for two cellos)

III. The Baroque Context

Jean-Baptiste Barrière - Sonata No. 10 for Two Cellos
One of the few original works written for two cellos in the Baroque era

Vivaldi - Selections from "The Four Seasons" (arr. for two cellos)
Winter and Summer movements, showcasing the cello's dramatic range

IV. Bach's Summit

Chaconne from Partita No. 2 in D minor, BWV 1004 (arr. Perron/Jaffe)
Concluding with Bach's monumental achievement. Originally composed for solo violin, the Chaconne is considered one of Bach's greatest achievements. This arrangement for two cellos brings new depth to the piece, allowing for a fuller realization of its harmonic structure while maintaining the emotional intensity of the original.
