What happens when a string quartet refuses to stay in its lane? Brooklyn Rider has spent two decades answering that question, bringing classical precision, rock-star energy, and a serious appetite for musical adventure to the concert stage. At Herbst Theatre on October 8, they pair Haydn with music by Angélica Negrón, Don Byron, Ted Hearne, and Bob Dylan—a program that moves freely between centuries, styles, and ideas, while keeping four string instruments at its center.

The program, Citizenship Notes, is a particularly eclectic ride, culminating in Colin Jacobsen’s arrangement of Dylan’s “The Times They Are A-Changin’.” And through Groupmuse Nights Out, you can experience it from orchestra or front dress-circle seats—the first two rows—for just $20, instead of the usual $75. San Francisco Performances is bringing the adventure; we’re just making it considerably easier to get in the door.

Children 8 and over are welcomed.
