Two composers, two very different ways of saying a lot with a piano. Camerata Pacifica brings Rachmaninoff’s lush, searching Variations on a Theme of Chopin together with Schubert’s radiant Piano Trio No. 1 for an evening of intimate chamber music at the Colburn School in Los Angeles on Wednesday, October 14 at 8pm. Rachmaninoff gives Chopin’s theme a series of increasingly dramatic transformations; Schubert answers with music that is expansive, lyrical, and full of the restless energy that makes his chamber music so compelling.
