Grammy Award-winning violinist Jennifer Koh and composer-pianist Vijay Iyer come together for the opening concert of the Philadelphia Chamber Music Society’s 41st season—a program that places Bach’s timeless Partita in D Minor alongside Iyer’s inventive, emotionally resonant Scenes of Living and Dying. The evening moves between centuries and musical worlds, culminating in the world premiere of Part II of Iyer’s work, commissioned by PCMS and performed by Iyer and Koh.
It’s the kind of chamber-music evening that makes a case for both tradition and experimentation: music with history, music being written now, and two extraordinary musicians meeting somewhere in between. Friday, October 16 at 7:30pm at the Perelman Theater in Philadelphia, with discounted tickets available through Groupmuse Nights Out—a chance to hear a major new work and a Bach masterpiece live, without the usual ticket price.
