❤️ A concert about family, memory, and the music we carry with us. Kaufman Music Center presents Mayrig, an immersive new 65-minute work created and performed by Grammy-nominated Armenian-Canadian cellist and composer Karen Ouzounian and Rome Prize-winning Estonian-American composer, pianist, and animator Lembit Beecher. Meaning “mother” in Armenian, Mayrig weaves Ouzounian’s family history into a deeply personal tapestry of cello, piano, electronics, and voice, incorporating recordings of her mother and grandmother, Armenian music from Anatolia, songs and stories from post-genocide Lebanon, and beloved music by Charles Aznavour.

Surrounded by newly commissioned projections by artist Charles Berberian, the performance moves between tenderness and intensity, celebration and grief, tradition and reinvention. New works by Beecher, Layale Chaker, Nathalie Joachim, Niloufar Nourbakhsh, and Ouzounian expand the story across generations, while Marin Marais’s centuries-old Les Voix Humaines bookends the evening. ✨ Tuesday, October 27 at 7:30 PM at Kaufman Music Center — and Groupmuse Nights Out has tickets for just $20. 🎟️
