Celebrate the many musical traditions that make up America’s cultural identity through with Rasa String Quartet’s An American Patchwork at the Museum of Modern Renaissance in Somerville on Thursday, October 22 at 7 PM. In honor of America’s 250th birthday, this adventurous program brings together an extraordinary range of sounds and influences, from jazz standards and bluegrass favorites to Indigenous musical traditions, Latin pop, and contemporary classical music—all performed by a quartet known for exploring the space where classical and folk traditions meet.
The program moves from the infectious swing of Billy Strayhorn’s “Take the ‘A’ Train” to the soulful lyricism of William Grant Still’s Lyric Quartette, the evocative folk melodies of “Ashokan Farewell,” and even Bad Bunny’s “LA MuDANZA,” reimagined for string quartet. Along the way, music by Shelley Washington, Jerod Impichchaachaaha’ Tate, and other distinctive voices adds depth and texture to this musical mosaic. Set inside the Museum of Modern Renaissance, a spectacular space filled with colorful murals and intricate artwork across its walls and ceilings, this concert promises an immersive evening where America’s diverse soundscapes come together in one unforgettable setting. And with Groupmuse Nights Out, you can experience it for less than half the regular cost. 🎻✨
